چکیده
About 50 to 80 percent of precipitation in the southeastern United States returns to the atmosphere by evapotranspiration. As evapotranspiration is a major component in the forest water balances, accurately quantifying it is critical to predicting the effects of forest management and global change on water, sediment, and nutrient yield from forested watersheds. However, direct measurement of forest evapotranspiration on a large basin or a regional scale is not possible. The objectives of this study were to develop an empirical model to estimate long-term annual actual evapotranspiration (AET) for forested watersheds and to quantify spatial AFT patterns across the southeast. A geographic information system (GIS) database including land cover, daily streamflow, and climate was developed using long term experimental and monitoring data from 39 forested watersheds across the region. Using the stepwise selection method implemented in a statistical modeling package, a long term annual AFT model was constructed. The final multivariate linear model includes four independent variables annual precipitation, watershed latitude, watershed elevation, and percentage of forest coverage. The model has an adjusted R2 of 0.794 and is sufficient to predict long term annual AFT for forested watersheds across the southeastern United States. The model developed by this study may be used to examine the spatial variability of water availability, estimate annual water loss from mesoscale watersheds, and project potential water yield change due to forest cover change. Modeling Streams and Hydrogeomorphic Attributes in Oregon from Digital and Field Data
Managers, regulators, and researchers of aquatic ecosystems are increasingly pressed to consider large areas. However, accurate stream maps with geo-referenced attributes are uncommon over relevant spatial extents. Field inventories provide high-quality data, particularly for habitat characteristics at fine spatial resolutions (e.g., large wood), but are costly and so cover relatively small are...
متن کاملExploring the Relationships between Spatial and Demographic Parameters and Urban Water Consumption in Esfahan Using Association Rule Mining
In recent years, Iran has faced serious water scarcity and excessive use of water resources. Therefore, exploring the pattern of urban water consumption and the relationships between geographic and demographic parameters and water usage is an important requirement for effective management of water resources. In this study, association rule mining has been used to analyze the data of municipal w...
متن کاملCritical Evaluation of How the Rosgen Classification and Associated ‘‘natural Channel Design’’ Methods Fail to Integrate and Quantify Fluvial Processes and Channel Response
Over the past 10 years the Rosgen classification system and its associated methods of ‘‘natural channel design’’ have become synonymous to some with the term ‘‘stream restoration’’ and the science of fluvial geomorphology. Since the mid 1990s, this classification approach has become widely adopted by governmental agencies, particularly those funding restoration projects. The purposes of this ar...

متن کاملChronic Kidney Disease, Anxiety and Depression among American Blacks; Does Ethnicity Matter?
Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is known to be associated with deterioration of mental health. However, it is clear that this link is over and beyond the effects of socio-economic factors and other medical conditions. This study had two aims: 1) to compare the association between CKD and general anxiety disorder (GAD) among the two major ethnic groups of American Bla...
